The Society is a non- profit, non-political organisation which aims to sustain and promote the cultural and historical traditions of Messinia through social events, celebrations of historic anniversaries, lectures, festivals, play performances, exhibitions, dancing performances and educational programs for the first, second and subsequent Generations of Messinians and friends. The major event of the Society is its Annual Dinner dance. Other events include the Australia Day Weekend Winery Day, presenting a stall at the Lonsdale Street Festival, participating in the Greek Independence Day Parade, the Battle of Kalamata Commemoration Service to honour those who fought and died in the defence of Greece in 1941 during World War II, the Trivia Night, Independence Women’s day and Mother’s Day luncheons, sponsoring the Australian Hellenic Memorial Student competition and the Members Christmas lunch. The Society is affiliated with the Federation of Messinian Organisations of Victoria, the Pan-Australian Federation of Messinian Organisations and the Messinian Amfiktionia.
